Comments: For the third year in a row, the Autry National Center is proud to present Dinner and a Movie. Our first film of the series was The Singing Cowboy digitally presented in the museum's Wells Fargo Theater.
Like the previous Dinner and a Movie nights, the evening began with a tasty meal from the museum's Golden Spur Café. Folks enjoyed a delicious BBQ feast of quarter BBQ chicken or BBQ baby back pork ribs, chili roasted new potatoes, garden salad, garlic bread, a cool beverage, and warm bread pudding with vanilla sauce. The activities continued with a special tour in the Museum that related to the night's film. Senior Curator Michael Duchemin spoke about television and Gene Autry's influence in what was then a new medium. The special tour was given twice in the evening, allowing everyone the chance to enjoy their dinner and catch the tour. Michael is well versed in all things Gene Autry as he is the curator of the soon to open Gene Autry Centennial exhibit at the Museum.
At 7:15PM we all gathered in the Wells Fargo Theater for the pre-show lecture. It all began with Michael, whom Karla likes to refer to as our "Cowboy Scholar," sharing the "Big Picture" information and additional details on Gene Autry and television. Then Karla spoke on the trivia and information directly related to the film. After that, we all enjoyed the digital presentation of the fully restored film The Singing Cowboy.
Immediately after the movie everyone headed for the Museum Store for the Gene Autry Raffle Drawing. Two prizes were provided courtesy of the Autry Museum Store. Then it was time for "Q & A" on Gene Autry with Michael and Karla. Folks also took advantage of the Museum Store's Marvelous Movie Sale and everyone left with a smile.
So many friends from last year joined us for the evening and we met some swell new friends, too. We hope that you can come to the next Dinner and a Movie night when we will screen Gold Mine in the Sky. We've got everything you need for a fun evening with the family: free parking, tasty food, an air conditioned venue, and an entertaining Gene Autry movie!
