Autry National Center Cowboys and Presidents Press Preview
Press Preview for the Autry National Center's Cowboys and Presidents exhibit.
Thursday, April 10, 2008
Members of the Autry National Center know that the museum's Montgomery Gallery houses extra special exhibits like Gene Autry and the Twentieth-Century West: The Centennial Exhibition 1907-2007. Their latest exhibit, Cowboys and Presidents continues this tradition and is one terrific show!
Is there a Gene Autry connection to Cowboys and Presidents? Of course there is and Karla Buhlman, Vice President of Gene Autry Entertainment, attended the press preview to give you the Gene Autry fan a special look at this educational and entertaining exhibit. The convergence of cowboy customs and presidential politics are presented with artifacts such as costumes, movie posters, paintings, sculptures, video clips, books and letters. A few of the cowboys represented are Buffalo Bill Cody, William S. Hart, Will Rogers, Gene Autry, and John Wayne. The presidents begin with Teddy Roosevelt and some cowboy connections are rather obvious such as Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan. Others will surprise you like Calvin Coolidge, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and even the current presidential candidates.
Our photo album is just a brief look at this detailed exhibit. There is much to see and do at the Cowboys and Presidents exhibit at the Autry. Visit the museum's website for details on upcoming Cowboys and Presidents guest speakers, movie screens, and special events.
