"Gene Autry's Melody Ranch" radio show broadcast on Sunday, November 17, 1940 was live from station WBBM in Chicago, Illinois. Gene is backed by Jimmy Wakely and The Rough Riders, and Ceaser Petrillo & Orchestra for this performance. At the beginning of the clip Gene is chatting about "Old Man Winter" and the moon with "Shorty Long," who is played by Horace Murphy.

Gene co-wrote the song "Old November Moon" with longtime friend and collaborator Johnny Marvin. It must have been a favorite because Gene sang it at least nine times over the run of the radio shows from 1940 to 1956.
