Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Gene Autry's Melody Ranch Radio Show
(November 1, 1953)

By 1953 Gene Autry was a huge star in radio, records, movies, and television. And as he mentions in the introduction to this song, he also has a "close personal friend" at the North Pole. Gene's November 1, 1953 performance of his holiday hit "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" is notable due to the accompaniment by Carl Cotner's Melody Ranch Hard-way-Six featuring Alvino Rey. This musical arrangement prominently features a celeste which provides the twinkly keyboard sound.

From 1949 to 1955 Gene performed the song more than 19 times on his radio show. Today, more than half a century later, "Rudolph" is still Gene Autry's biggest selling record.
