Brief Synopsis:
Gene attempts to solve the mysterious holdups of stages carrying silver bullion, and Pat sends away for a mail-order sweetheart, who turns out to have a young son.
Detailed Synopsis:
Gene Autry is suspicious of ranch owner and politician Big Tim Brady's dealings in silver bullion. Brady insures the shipments, which are always coincidentally hijacked from the stage. Pat Buttram adds to the confusion by answering a lonely-hearts ad for a mail-order sweetheart. He finds out soon enough that his prospective bride, Marcie Nevers, has an eight-year-old son, Jimmy. Pat is disgusted with the situation, but it is welcomed by Bill Barker, the editor of the town paper, who gives Marcie and Jimmy a job so they will stay. Little Jimmy hides in Brady's wagon and finds the fake bullion box in his woodshed. Brady's foreman discovers Jimmy, but Gene and Pat are looking for him and arrive just in time to save the boy. A gun battle ensues and the heavies are overcome. During all of the excitement, Bill Barker discovers he is in love with Marcie – much to Pat's relief.
