Brief Synopsis:

Gene is called in to help a sheriff who is having trouble with a band of outlaws. It is Pat, though, who stumbles on a lead when he tells some tall tales which are believed.

Detailed Synopsis:

Sheriff Higgins, faced with a band of outlaws, a scheming gambler, and in danger of losing his badge, calls Gene Autry for help. While the sheriff explains the situation to Gene, Pat Buttram spins tall tales to a couple of kids outside. Two strangers, overhearing Pat's story, grab him. Gene goes to Pat's rescue, but is ambushed on his way through Devil's Elbow. Both he and Pat are taken to the hideout of Snap Larkin, who believes that Pat knows where "The Sly Fox" buried the half a million dollars he stole in a series of bank robberies. Because Gene and Pat are in a tough spot, Pat feigns amnesia long enough for Gene to formulate an escape plan. Gene, of course, manages to outwit Larkin, capture the gang and break up the gambler's scheme to take over Cartersville.
