While in search of a masked gang, Gene and Pat find a dying rancher. The two cowboys find themselves in danger when they try to carry out the rancher’s oral will.

Detailed Synopsis:

While pursuing a masked gang in the territory west of Texas, Gene Autry and Pat Buttram are distracted when they have to save Anne Lawton from a runaway buckboard. Later, Gene learns that the unidentified masked gang killed his friend Mac Forbes, whom he was going to visit. As he was dying, Forbes willed his share of a ranch, jointly owned, to his partner Tom Lawton, Anne's father. Pat and a ranch hand witnessed this oral will. Meanwhile, Jeff Forbes, black sheep nephew of Mac and bandit leader, intends to claim the ranch. On his way to the district territorial headquarters to test the validity of the oral will, Lawton is ambushed, and the witness is killed. Gene rescues Lawton, but due to a fall, Lawton is paralyzed. Pretending innocence, Jeff Forbes calls at the ranch and his appearance shocks Lawton into regaining his powers, and he tries to shoot Jeff. Despite having suspicions, Gene intervenes and permits Jeff to leave. He follows and after a fight, captures Tucson, Jeff's partner in crime. Learning Jeff has returned to the ranch to kill Lawton, Gene follows, arriving just in time to prevent the murder. Gene reveals that he is really a Texas Ranger and needed Forbes to get to Tucson.
